Billion-dollar contracts in railway technology often generate synergy effects among suppliers. And sometimes, these companies even surpass their country of origin in terms of technological advancements. This is now the case on the Nile, where Kontron was awarded the contract for the GSM-R digital communications network for the Egyptian high-speed rail project.

Kontron will provide the railway radio technology for Siemens Mobility's " Egypt High Speed Rail Project ." This project, marking the beginning of a new era for the railway system in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East, is one of the IT provider's largest undertakings.
It is part of the new electrified rail network, which, under Siemens' management, will connect 60 cities across the country with a 2,000 km state-of-the-art high-speed rail network.
KontronTransportation will supply the latest railway radio communication technology for the project, fully compliant with International Union of Railways (UIC) standards. This technology is based on a cyber-secured IP technology portfolio, paving the way for the next generation of 5G FRMCS and ensuring a seamless transition from GSM-R/FRMCS.

Kontron Transportation's GSM-R technology will be deployed on three routes. The first, as previously reported, connects the port cities of Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea with Marsa Matrouh and Alexandria on the Mediterranean. The second runs between Cairo and Abu Simbel, and the third connects Luxor via Safaga with Hurghada.

Kontron Transportation brings extensive GSM-R and FRMCS (Future Railway Mobile Communication System) experience, complemented by 15 years of lifecycle management expertise. "We are proud to be part of this project, which will provide 90 percent of all Egyptians with access to safe, clean, and reliable long-distance transportation," says Kontron COO Bernd Eder.

Kontron Transportation is an internationally operating provider of end-to-end communication solutions for mission-critical networks.
