In a meeting of the German Federal Cabinet today, the appointment of Christoph Franz, Birgit Bohle, and Elisabeth Lepique to the supervisory board of Deutsche Bahn was given the green light. The Ministry of Transport stated that this would create "room for further (external) expertise."

to be implemented by a resolution of the Annual General Meeting, effective March 1, 2026. and the State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport, Claudia Stutz, will remain on the board. Following the recently completed restructuring of the Deutsche Bahn Group's Executive Board, the appointment of new Supervisory Board members represents another important milestone.

According to the statement from the Ministry, Christoph Franz, Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Zurich Insurance Group, can draw on many years of extensive experience in outstanding management and board positions in companies such as Deutsche Bahn, Lufthansa and Roche Holding for his work on the Supervisory Board.

Birgit Bohle, currently a member of the Management Board of Deutsche Telekom, previously held a leading position at Deutsche Bahn. During her time as Managing Director of DB Vertrieb (DB Sales), she oversaw the expansion of the digitalization of ticket purchases via the "DB Navigator" app. As CEO, she successfully led DB's long-distance passenger transport division.

Elisabeth Lepique is a lawyer and tax advisor. As the long-standing managing partner of Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH, she successfully positioned the company in the market as a focused, internationally oriented full-service provider. She will enrich the committee with her extensive and in-depth expertise in corporate and tax law within public sector companies.
Digitalization driven forward
With Immo Querner and Daniela Mattheus, who are already members of the supervisory board, half of the shareholder representatives will then consist of experienced leaders from German business. Members of the Bundestag Björn Simon, Uwe Schmidt, and Sebastian Brehm, recognized experts in transportation and budgetary matters, will join the supervisory board.
