Hupac defies difficult environment

In 2025, the Hupac Group transported approximately 975,000 road shipments using combined road/rail transport. This represents a 4.3% increase in transport volume. Hupac stated that this performance allowed it to maintain its leading position in Europe, particularly on the transalpine TEN-T corridor.

Hupac is one of the leading network operators in intermodal transport on European corridors. With around 1 million road shipments transported annually and 130 trains running daily, it connects the most important European economic regions as well as destinations as far east as the Far East. The company makes a significant contribution to shifting freight transport to rail and thus to environmental and climate protection.
Transalpine core business
Construction sites, detours, and route closures were commonplace and will remain so in 2026. Hupac is addressing these challenges and investing in resilient solutions that will be implemented in 2026.
In its core business of transalpine transport through Switzerland, Hupac was able to increase traffic volumes despite construction-related restrictions (+4.5% or +24,100 shipments). This was partly due to the takeover of traffic on the Belgium-Italy axis. Without this additional traffic, the volume of transalpine transport through Switzerland would have declined for the second consecutive year.
Major challenges
Transalpine traffic via France and Austria increased from a low base (+26.9% or +5,100 shipments). Non-transalpine traffic in the continental and maritime regions grew to almost 390,000 road shipments. "The overall volume development is encouraging, especially considering the major challenges, such as the complete closure of the Rhine Valley line during the busy month of June," says Hans-Jörg Bertschi, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
