Amazon eActros 600

It is the largest order for electric trucks in the history of the commercial vehicle manufacturer, according to Mercedes-Benz's truck division. Starting in 2025, 200 eActros 600 electric trucks will supplement Amazon's transport network on the "middle mile" between logistics centers and urban areas.

According to the company, the zero-emission vehicles are expected to transport over 350 million parcels per year without producing any exhaust emissions, with more than 140 of the trucks being put into service in Great Britain and more than 50 in Germany.

The jubilation knows no bounds. Truck Sales Director Stina Fagerman: “Amazon is an important customer for us on the road to CO2-neutral transport. A near-production prototype of the eActros 600 has already been tested by Amazon and provided valuable insights even before series production began.” Karin Rådström, CEO of the Truck division: “We are delighted that Amazon, as a pioneer in the transformation to alternative drive systems, has chosen the eActros 600.”

“This is Amazon’s largest order of electric trucks worldwide to date,” confirms Andreas Marschner, Head of Sustainability at Amazon. “An important step towards achieving our climate goal of operating carbon-neutrally in all business areas by 2040.”.»

The high battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt-hours – hence the model designation 600 – as well as a new, particularly efficient electric drive axle of in-house development, enable a range of 500 km without recharging, according to the manufacturer. This range is achieved under practical conditions with a total train weight of 40 tons and can be significantly exceeded depending on driving style and route.

With intermediate charging, the eActros will even be able to travel well over 1000 km and will later also allow megawatt charging with up to 400 kW.

In terms of profitability for fleet operators, the electric truck is expected to replace the majority of diesel trucks in the important long-haul segment in the long term. The core of Mercedes-Benz Trucks' concept for battery-electric long-haul transport is to offer customers a comprehensive transport solution under the new TruckCharge brand, encompassing vehicle technology, consulting, charging infrastructure, and services, in addition to competitive vehicles.

During the «eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024» (photo above), a fully electric development tour of over 15,000 km through 22 countries with a total train weight of 40 t, the eActros proved its suitability. The eActros 600 has been in series production at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth am Rhein since the end of 2024.
