Another 42 eActros for Lidl OE

December 1, 2025

In addition to the 14 battery-electric eActros 600 trucks already delivered, Lidl Austria has signed a further framework agreement for 42 electric units, which are scheduled to go into operation by mid-2027. At the same time, Austria's most powerful dedicated truck charging network for the retail sector is being built.

The first eActros 600 vehicles were recently put into operation at the opening of the new charging park at the Lidl logistics center in Laakirchen. By the end of the year, the first 20 electric trucks from Mercedes-Benz Trucks are expected to be in operation nationwide for store deliveries.

Lidl Austria CEO Michael Kunz presented the new trucks and the high-performance local infrastructure Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure, Peter Hanke, in the presence of Daimler Truck Austria CEO Jens Tittel

Powered by 100% green electricity

As part of its group-wide climate strategy to achieve "Net Zero by 2050," Lidl Austria is focusing on the development of sustainable transport concepts and sees itself as a pioneer in the Austrian food retail sector. Electric trucks have been in daily use since 2024. These vehicles run on 100% green electricity, which is produced, for example, by the photovoltaic systems on the roofs of the logistics centers.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks celebrated the start of series production of the eActros 600 in Wörth at the end of November last year. Deliveries to customers began in December 2024, and the truck is now in daily use on the road in over 15 European countries. The electric flagship of the Mercedes-Benz Trucks range had already proven its capabilities under real-world conditions several times before its series production launch: in customer operations, as part of the "eActros 600 European Testing Tour 2024," a fully electric development tour of over 15,000 kilometers through 22 countries, and the "European Testing Tour Winter 2025," covering approximately 6,500 kilometers through Northern Europe – each with a gross combination weight of 40 tons . Furthermore, the electric truck was named "International Truck of the Year 2025."

The eActros 600 features three battery packs, each with a capacity of 207 kWh. These provide a total installed capacity of 621 kWh. The batteries are based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell technology and are characterized by their long lifespan. Furthermore, unlike other battery cell technologies, over 95 percent of the installed capacity can be utilized with LFP technology. This enables a greater range with the same total battery capacity.

The vehicle is technically designed for a combined gross train weight of up to 44 tons. With a standard semi-trailer, the eActros 600 has a payload of approximately 22 tons in the EU. Lidl Austria, headquartered in Salzburg, has been operating in the food retail sector since 1998. The company runs over 250 stores, three logistics centers, and employs around 5,800 people. Lidl was founded by Dieter Schwarz and is part of the Schwarz Group.
